A square bamboo tray cut into nine compartments, each about the size of a small handful. It is one piece of bamboo with dividers - no plastic insert, no lid, nothing to lose.

Nine compartments is more useful than it sounds, because it stops the thing that always happens on a snack table: everything ends up mixed, the salted things taste of the sweet ones, and whoever wanted only the walnuts has to dig. Divided, people take what they want and put nothing back.

It also works away from food. Nine compartments will hold earrings, dice, seed packets, or the small hardware from a project you have not finished.

Care

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry it. No dishwasher and no soaking. Keep oily food on paper or in small dishes rather than straight on the bamboo, since a compartment this narrow is difficult to scrub and oil darkens bamboo permanently.
