No rolling pin involved. A wooden cup, a wooden ball, and a piece of dough pressed between them - that is the whole tool.
The cup is 7.7 cm across, so the wrappers come out small and round, about the width of the cup. The wood is unpainted and uncoated.
What You Get
- One wooden press cup and one wooden press ball
Details
- Material: wood (species not specified by the maker)
- Cup: diameter about 7.7 cm / 3.03 in, height about 3 cm / 1.18 in
- Ball: about 4.7 cm / 1.85 in
- Finish: unpainted, uncoated
- Weight: approx. 82 g
- Allow a 1-2 cm difference from hand measurement
Care
Before first use, the maker recommends soaking the cup and ball in vegetable oil for about an hour. Dust both with flour before every press. Hand wash, dry completely, and keep it out of the dishwasher.
Questions
Is it easier than a rolling pin?
Not always. Bare wood can grip fresh dough and tear it - oiling the wood first and flouring it well is what makes it work. If you already roll wrappers by hand, a rolling pin is still the more flexible tool.
How big are the wrappers?
About the width of the cup, 7.7 cm. That is on the small side for dumplings, so fold them snugly or use the wrappers for small pies and bite-size buns.
Pairs Well With
Press wrappers on the same floured board as the rolling pin and the mooncake mold in China Finds, then set the finished dumplings out on a board from The Serein Edit.
Natural wood varies in grain and colour, so yours will look a little different from the photos.
