A fan woven in one piece from natural plant fibre, shaped like a heart and finished with a plain bound stick for a handle. There is no mechanism in it. Nothing folds, nothing clicks, nothing can break.

The weave is open enough to see daylight through, which is part of why something this light moves air at all. At around 58 grams it weighs less than a deck of cards, so a child can hold one without getting tired, and it can hang from a hook by the door for the eleven months it is not needed.

Care

Keep it dry and wipe it with a dry cloth. Do not soak or wash it. Woven plant fibre holds water down in the weave where it cannot dry, and moisture trapped in a weave is how mildew starts.

Questions

Does it fold?
No. It is one solid woven piece with a fixed handle.

Is it a working fan or a decorative one?
Both, and it was made as the first. The weave is stiff across its width, which is what lets it push air instead of bending.

Will it stay this pale?
No. Undyed plant fibre darkens toward a warmer straw tone over time, and not evenly. That is the material behaving normally, not a fault.

Can it hang on a wall?
Yes. The handle end takes a nail or a small hook.

Are the small burrs a defect?
No. Hand-woven plant fibre usually has one or two. Run a thumb along the edge and they settle.
